Support the PPBA by Buying Tickets to Watch the Mets Play

Each year, the PPBA runs an important fundraiser by selling tickets to go see one of the New York baseball teams play. In past years, the money raised by these ticket sales has helped us to rebuild a number of the ball fields.

This year, we will go see the NY Mets take on the Florida Marlins at Citifield on Friday, June 7, at 7:10 pm.

Tickets are $22 each. You can purchase them through the organization that sponsors the team your child plays on. (The PPBA does not sell tickets directly.) Look for more information from your organization soon, because the deadline for ordering is April 29.

Playing Rules

The following are the Playing Rules for the Prospect Park Baseball Association. The hardball & softball rules cover baseball from the Cub Division through the Freshmen Division (ages 9-17), plus the softball rules from the Mustang Division through the High School Division (ages 8-17).

The Cheat Sheets for baseball and softball are intended to give a quick one-page summary of rules differences between different divisions (basepath distance, pitching distance, etc.).

The Pee Wee Division (ages 5-6) rules are separate, as are the Pony Division (ages 7-8) rules, which this year include rules for both the new subdivision in which players pitch against the opposing team as well as the traditional Pony Division in which players pitch to their own team, sometimes assisted by a coach pitching part of a game.

“Interpretation of PPBA Hit by the Pitch Rule (Rule B3fii):

The rule relating to batters who are hit by a pitched ball for Cubs, Bantam, Super Bantam, Grasshopper, Mustangs, Bronco and Colt shall be interpreted to mean that the same pitcher can hit up to three batters in a game but must be removed from an inning if he/she hits two batters in one inning. A pitcher who is removed from the game can return to play any other position during that game.

Example 1: A pitcher hits two batters in inning one. That pitcher can return to pitch another inning. If at any time after inning one that pitcher hits another batter, that pitcher must be removed from the game as a pitcher for the balance of the game.

Example 2: A pitcher hits one batter in inning one and two batters in another inning, that pitcher must be removed from the game as a pitcher upon hitting that second batter in the later inning.

Example 3: A pitcher hits one batter in inning one, one batter in inning two and one batter in inning three. The pitcher must be removed from the game after hitting the batter in inning three.

These examples are always subject to the operation of other related rules, such as the innings limitation for pitchers and the fact that pitchers who are removed can always return to play another position.”

Schedules

Here are the regular season schedules for baseball and softball during the Spring 2013 season.

These schedules are broken down by division, and in some cases are further broken down within a division. The Pee Wee division is broken into two parts, called Pee Wee 5 and Pee Wee 6. The Pony division has a new Pony North division, in which kids are pitching against the opposing team, as well as two other subdivisions called Pony 7 and Pony 8, which are following the traditional PPBA Pony rule of pitchers throwing to their own team. The Cub and Bantam divisions are subdivided by tiers–South, West, East, North.

Be sure you know which tier your player’s team is in.

Directions: Go in the 9th Street entrance to Prospect Park on Prospect Park West. Walk straight east across the inner roadway, down onto the fields. Field 4 is straight ahead—see the second map below which indicates the locations of all the fields by division. You can also enter the Park on Prospect Park SW between 10th & 11th Avenue.

Closest subway stations: F train – 7th Ave & 9th Street Station (7th Avenue stop) or 15th Street Station (15th Street stop)

Location: On the corner of Parkside Avenue and Parade Place. Field 6 is the corner field; Field 5 is inside the Park and is entered from Parade Place.

Closest subway station: Q Train to Parkside at Ocean Avenue (walk West along Parkside) or Q Train to Church at East 18th (Exit on Caton Avenue, walk East on Caton Avenue, then North on Parade Place).

DEWEY/SUNSET PARK:

Location: On the east side of 3rd Avenue between 40th and 41st street.

Closest subway station: N or R trains – 45th Street & 4th Avenue.

Directions: Take 9th Street to Hamilton Avenue. Turn Right on Hamilton Ave. Turn Right on Hicks Street (right after the entrance ramp to the BQE). The field is immediately on the right.

BENSONHURST

Location: Cropsey at 21st Ave

Directions: Take Prospect Expressway/RT-27 East towards Ocean Parkway. Continue on Ocean Parkway. Turn Right on Bay Parkway. Turn Right on Cropsey Ave to 21st Avenue.

Closest Subway: D and M trains to Bay Parkway, walk to Cropsey Avenue.

Narrows Fields 1 and 2

By Car: Take the Belt Parkway East, past the Verrazano Bridge. Take the Bay Parkway exit (past the Nellie Bly Kiddie Amusement Park), which puts you on Shore Parkway ˆ the service road. Follow Shore Parkway east straight, past 26th Avenue and past the Yacht Club. The fields will be on the right about 100 yards past Bay 44th Street. In the map, the larger field on the right is Field 1; the smaller field on the left is Field 2.

By Subway: Take the D train to the Bay Parkway station

By Bus: Take the #6 bus to 26th Avenue.
